Under the eves

Madrid

sunny 25 °C

Rocking possum, Merino and Melbourne boots I strutted with spouse through the streets of Madrid. Every corner turned, a new vista consisting of a plaza brimming with life and imposing architectural extravagances . It was so exciting just exploring. Our apartment was tucked away under the eves of the city, which meant that most of our everyday functions such as getting dressed were achieved by crawling around on our hands and knees, not always elegant. Nevertheless, great position as we were in the heart of the city, 5 mins walk to the Prado, Retiro gardens and all the galleries. Madrid oozes style and we lapped it up, food, coffee, culture and clothes. Within 24 hours I had bought 2 pairs of camper shoes, oh so necessary for travel comfort and we had gorged our selves on every morsel on offer. Sampling everything we could of the Madrilliano cuisine, best loved was the Tapas bar in La Latin called Juana La Loca. Every dish a delight, beautiful wine and great company. Sadly such over indulgence forced a much more meagre diet over the last few days. Favourite gallery was the Thyssen Bornemisza, a contained gallery with a comprehensive selection of beautiful pieces and as an added bonus, a hyper realism exhibition that was really interesting. We made one sojourn from the city to Cordoba, where we immersed ourselves in moorish art and architecture. Just loved Madrid and would return in a heart beat, maybe next time to live for a bit ! Who knows !

Beeautiful, engaging description! Just the antidote for the cold morning in Melbourne.
